2022 Update

    News from Nepal:
  • Two years have past since we last visited our Early Childhood Development (ECD) schools in Nepal. We plan to make a trip this November bring our curriculum back for new teachers and to help those teachers are having difficulty implementing the curriculum as presented to them over the last 10 years.
  • Our stalwart partner, Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN), continues to move forward on our collaborative effort to bring preschool education to rural villages. Earlier this year, we supported repairs and updates on many of our classrooms. VIN was also able to facilitate the construction of a new ECD classroom.
  • We are also pleased to report that the local governments have committed to paying part of the community preschool teacher's salary. VIN and PiSL have been working hard to educate the local governments on the importance of their commitment to the education of the young children in their villages. PISL continues to support the salary of 9 teachers.

  • The next bit of good news is that our talented Nepali architect, Rajeep, has developed plans for a new earthquake resistant classroom that is significantly cheaper to build than the ones we built several years ago. A small classroom can be built for about $7000 (previous design was $12000)! There is currently  one classroom that need to be replaced and we are looking for funding to get these built in 2022.
  • You might consider sponsoring the full construction of a classroom! Your gift of $7000 will cover the costs of constructing a classroom. Dedicate the classroom in honor of a loved one, friend or family member. A plaque will be placed on the completed building to show your commitment to education and love for your honoree. Photos will be provided to update you on construction and to keep you informed about the classroom as it becomes a reality. Please let Diann know of your intention at diann@partnersinsustainablelearning.org

Our Work in Nepal

Train and Sponsor Teachers
Over years, we have completed 14 5-day teacher workshops with  women. We visit  each of the 50 preschools at least one time a year to monitor and
coach the teachers . PiSL pays the salaries of 9 teachers who are not supported by the government, so we have a Sponsor a Teacher program in which donors can  contribute.

Renovate and Furnish Classrooms
Since our first project in 2013, we have built 11 ECD classrooms (pre-earthquake design) and built 4 earthquake resistant classrooms. That leaves 27 classrooms that we have renovated. We are so happy that  he 4 earthquake resistant classrooms are complete and we look forward to keeping all 50 classrooms updated and repaired as needed.

Support Successful Learning
After teachers receive training, they need the required instructional materials to engage their students in learning. All 50 classrooms have received the materials needed to teach the Whole Child philosophy behind the PiSL Early Childhood Curriculum. We encourage teachers to use them and are committed to periodically updating and replacing these materials.
