PiSL Early Childhood Curriculum
We provide a complete early childhood curriculum.
- The PiSL Early Childhood Curriculum (ECC) is a developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant early learning program that provides the fundamentals skills research has shown children need for school success.
- The PiSL ECC is based on eight developmental domains that support the "whole child." The curriculum is sequential and age-appropriate. Teachers feel empowered as they deliver fun and engaging lessons with their students.
- The PiSL ECC was developed to use primarily "sustainable" instructional materials, such as natural items (stones, sticks), recycled objects (plastic bottles, newspapers, cardboard) and materials from local markets (fabric, plastic cups and plates, straws, string). When materials are lost or broken, teachers can replace them at minimal expense.
- Materials also include essentials such as a felt/white board, felt characters to tell stories, balls, play rings and local musical instruments.
- Each child is provided a toothbrush, comb and washcloth to use each morning.

Sample Lessons from the PiSL Early Childhood Curriculum
Large Motor Development: Red and Green
Objective: Children will develop large motor coordination and balance.

Activity: Teach children that RED means STOP; GREEN means GO. Children stand in a line on one side of the yard. Say GREEN to tell them to start running. Let them run a second and then say RED. Every child should freeze. Any child who does not stop goes back to the start. The object of the game is to be the first to the other side of the yard.
Early Math Skills: Stones Away
Objective: Children will use one-to-one correspondence to solve a simple problem.
Materials: 3 stones for each child, name cards in a bag, bowl, Number 3 Block (handmade block with numbers 1-3 in English and Nepali)
