Meet Dewaki Dewaki attended our first PiSL Teacher Training in April 2013 as a substitute. In 2017, the main teacher moved away and Dewaki took over her role. Dewaki has attended all the teacher refresher trainings that PiSL has provided, so she has a good understanding of how to implement the PiSL Curriculum. Her classroom is neat and well organized. Dewaki works hard to provide quality instruction to her students. She is proud to be the new preschool teacher in her village and she is committed to doing a good job with her young students. |
Meet Jeni
Jeni is one of our newer teachers. The previous teacher at her school relocated to Kathmandu with her family. The volunteer teacher did not want the full time position so the job opening was announced in the village. Several young women were interviewed by PiSL staff and Jeni was selected. She attended the PiSL Teacher Refresher Training in May 2017. We have visited her classroom several times and worked directly with her to explain the PiSL Curriculum and answer questions. Jeni is excited to be an early childhood educator and she is working hard to provide quality early childhood education to the children in her community. |
Meet Pyara
Pyara attended our second PiSL Teacher Training in April 2014. Pyara is a sweet, engaging young woman who is new to teaching. However, she has many innate qualities of a good teacher. She is caring and nurturing, but also encourages her young ones to try new things. Pyara's classroom is neat and clean with her materials stored safely in the locked cabinet after hours. When watching Pyara with her students, it is obvious that she loves being a teacher! |
Meet Bimala
Bimala is our newest teacher. The previous teacher, Om Kumari, recently moved with her family to the south of Nepal. Bimala was interviewed and subsequently chosen by the PiSL staff to become the new preschool teacher. Bimala attended the PiSL Refresher training in May 2017. We visited her classroom several days later and it was so delightful to see Bimala. Her classroom clean, organized and beautifully decorated. She had her instructional materials carefully organized in the locked cabinet. When we arrived, she was teaching her students how to use puzzles she had just received in the PiSL training. Bimala is very excited to be a new teacher and it will be a pleasure to watch her grow! |
Meet Rima
Rima attended our first PiSL Teacher Training in April 2013. Initially, Rima was shy and reluctant to participate. As the training progressed, she gradually gained more confidence. She demonstrated true leadership when she was asked to gather the residents of her community to begin the process of building a new preschool classroom. On the first community workday, only a small group of women arrived, but Rima was undeterred. Under her leadership, the community members (including the men!) completed the classroom in less than a month. She teaches 14 students at her school, Shideshowr Early Childhood Center, in Taluwa VDC. Rima is now a self-assured leader and a good teacher. |

Meet Hira
Hira attended our third PiSL Teacher Training in April 2015. Hira is a new teacher and eager to learn. Her village has a beautiful, well-built community center that was used only several times a month for meetings. So the community members decided to use the building as the early childhood center. It is clean, bright, safe and dry. Hira has a wonderful environment to teach in and she will excel as her skills develop.

Meet Pabitra
Pabitra attended our third PiSL Teacher Training in April 2015. Pabitra was initially quiet and shy. However, she is a very curious and eager to learn. She is a new early childhood educator so she is learning many new things about children and teaching techniques. On our last trip to Nepal, we visited Pabitra's classroom. It was neat, clean and beautiful! She was so proud of it and her students who showed us how they carefully place their name cards in the pocket chart each morning. It is a joy to see Pabitra grow and mature as a teacher! Pabitra has a full sponsorship from a generous donor!

Meet Beli
Beli attended our first PiSL Teacher Training in April 2013. Beli was very quiet throughout the training. However, at each refresher training (we have had seven subsequent trainings), Beli became more open and willing to participate. She is wonderful with her students and loves telling stories using the Nepali felt finger puppets. Over time, Beli has become one of our best teachers.

Meet Chitra
Chitra attended our first PiSL Teacher Training in April 2013 as a substitute/volunteer. This meant that if the sponsored teacher moved away that Chitra could take over as the main teacher. This actually happened a year ago. So Chitra is now responsible for her 12 young students. Her classroom is small, but clean and beautifully decorated. She is proud to be a teacher in her village and she is working hard to implement the PiSL curriculum. Chitra has a full sponsorship from a generous donor!

Meet Bina
Bina attended our third PiSL Teacher Training in April 2015. Bina is an enthusiastic and eager learner. She is new to teaching so she has much to learn, but she is willing to try her best to become a great early childhood educator. Bina’s community was provided the materials to build a new preschool classroom. It was not quite completed before the earthquake, so there was limited damage. The community has been able to repair it so it is safe. Bina is now teaching!
